As the holidays near, it’s that time of the year again. It’s time to hit the road and visit family and friends for the holidays. Celebrating with family is my favorite part of the holidays.
We don’t live near any of our extended family and travel a lot during the year, but especially at holiday time to visit family. During the summer, the kids and I take a long leisurely road trip to visit family and make lots of stops. That’s my key to surviving travel with three kids in the summer. Unfortunately, holiday time does not lend us a much flexibility and leisurely trips are out.
I have to find ways to keep the kids entertained during long stretches of time when we are in the car. Our kids love, love, love scavenger hunts and I just happen to enjoy making them! I made three different road trip scavenger hunts for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday travel.

Road Trip Scavenger Hunts
There are three different road trip scavenger hunts: license plates, road signs, and transportation. Download and print these on 8 1/2×11″ white paper.
For this trip, I plan to stick the scavenger hunts on a clipboard with a pencil.
You could also put together a travel binder with these scavenger hunts, paper, coloring pages or puzzles, and a pencil case with pencils and crayons.
Another option is to laminate the scavenger hunt and use a dry eraser marker or stickers to mark off the found items.
The transportation and road signs scavenger hunts will also come in handy as your are running around town trying to finish up last minuet errands, like old changes.
Getting the Car Road Trip Ready
When it comes to holiday prep, Walmart is a 1-stop shop!
My to do list in preparation of a road trip is always a mile long with errands, getting the car ready, packing, and arranging care the pets just to name a few things.
