It took three years of visiting grandma. After each visit, he asked the same question. Finally on the third year our son (with a little help from me) convinced his Dad. We came prepared with some pretty convincing arguments. We had three compelling benefits of cat ownership.

Benefits of Cats for Kids
1. Cats bring joy
Cats make kids happy and bring smiles to their faces. Cats, especially kitties, can be fun to play with as they chase a ball around the room or jump to get a piece of string.
2. Cats offer companionship
Cats provide a constant companion through the ups and downs of childhood. Cats can comfort kids when they are feeling sad, angry, or scared.
“Time spent with cats is never wasted.” -Sigmund Freud
3. Cats teach responsibility
Your pets’ basic needs are dependent on you. They need food, water, a place to sleep, love, and play.
How could Dad refuse a happy, well adjusted, and responsible child!
Part of our agreement in getting a new cat, was that our son would be responsible for the cat’s care.
The new cat proved to be a learning experience with the cat litter as the biggest learning curve. It took a few tries before he figured it out.
The first time he was asked to clean the litter box, he dumped the new cat litter over the old.
The second time, the old litter got dumped, the box got rinsed and new litter added. He neglected to dry dry the litter box and the new litter clumped on the bottom from the wetness. We were almost there. We were so close to success.
Finally with a little instruction and help of Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze cat litter, he found success with the third attempt. The old litter was dumped, the litter box rinsed and dried, and new litter added. Success!
The great thing about Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze cat litter is that it includes Borate Technology for superior ammonia control, which acts as a antimicrobial agent (inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria). It has also has a lemongrass citrus scent to provide a “fresher” aroma.
He now thought he was ready for a new cat. He was relentless in his efforts. He wanted two cats!
Finally, we told him he could have another cat if he took care of all his animals (he has a bearded dragon lizard as well) without constant reminders from us. To help him reach this goal, we made a cat care chore chart.
Print Cat Chore Chart
Tips on using the chore chart:
- Color in the box, make an x, or write the date in each box to signify a task is completed.
- Laminate it and make it reusable.
- Buy small stickers to place in the box when a task is completed.
- Place it somewhere visible and easily accessed.
He worked for several months successfully to meet this goal, so we have made a few visits to our local animal shelter in hopes of adopting another cat.
Giving back is important to us and we were thrilled to partner with Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze and donate $100 to our local shelter on one of our visits.
Purchase Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze at you local Sam’s Club in 5/11-6/5 and get $3.50 off through the May Instant Savings Book.
