As I was putting the Easter decor anyway last week, my daughter asked what was next.  I told her mother’s day was coming up; a special day for mommys.  Being the 3 year old that she is, she asked when her special day is.

Our conservation prompted me to start thinking about mother’s day cards and gifts. May is so busy with teacher appreciation, end of school activities, graduations, and mother’s day that I like to get a head start on my projects.

We do a Christmas letter every year that we send out to family and friends.  Occasionally I mix it up by doing a take on an acrostic poem.  An acrostic poem uses the letters of the word you have chosen to start each line of the poem.  Each line relates or describes the word you have chosen.

This year I decided to write a couple of acrostic poems for mother’s day.  I wrote one spelling out Mother and another one spelling Mommy.  Next up was creating cards to display these poems.

I really enjoyed making these cards.  Before we had kids and even when we had just one, I enjoyed scrapbooking.   As we had more kids and life got busier,I did not have time to complete an entire scrapbook.  Making cards still allows me to be creative and uses many of the items I used in scrapbooking.  All the items I used in making these cards were purchased at Hobby Lobby.  I have links below for similar items if you prefer online shopping.

Mother's Day Card with Acrostic Poem

I just love how this card turned out and it was so easy to make!  I purchased a pre-folded 5×7 card.  Using my washi tape I made a horizontal line and then a vertical line over it.   I hot glued the 3 paper flowers onto the card.  For the inside, I cute a piece of yellow dot scrapbook paper so that it was just smaller than the card.  The next step was to add the acrostic poem (print below).  After printing it, I cut the paper so that it was slightly smaller than the yellow paper and used a corner punch to round the corners.

Mother's Day Card with acrostic poemThis card was a lot of fun to make.  I took a pre-folded 5×7 green card and laid paper flowers out in the shape of a heart.  Next was the tricky part…how to glue them.  I took a piece of paper, placed it over the flowers, and flipped the card so that I now had the back side of the flowers (like you would flip a cake).  I put hot glue all over the back of the flowers and flipped again.  I just had one spot I had to adjust.  For the inside, I chose a piece of orange cardstock and cut it so that it is slightly smaller than than the card and rounded the edges with my corner punch.  I repeated the process for the poem (print below) after I printed it.  I cut it slightly smaller than the orange paper and also rounded the edges.  I had some paper flowers leftover from the outside, so I glued one to the top corner.
