Does Elf on the Shelf visit your home?  Ours has been visiting for the last three years and has a lot of fun while causing little mischief.  Our elf is named John Fletcher and starts visiting some time after Thanksgiving.

15 Elf on the Shelf ideas for Christmas

Our elf tries to wait it out until about two weeks before Christmas, but our oldest child had one visit his class as soon as they returned from Thanksgiving break last year.  He was sad until ours finally arrived a few days later.

Christmas is a busy time of year, so I like to get our “Elf activities” planned out ahead of time. I was going back through pictures from previous years to get some inspiration for this year’s game plan.

Elf on the Shelf riding train with Mickey Mouse

Our youngest two have been huge Mickey Mouse fans and were thrilled to see the Elf riding along with Mickey.

Elf on the Shelf put underwear in the Christmas tree

Elf toilet papered the Christmas tree. He did not clean up his mess.

Elf on the Shelf made the hallway festive with ribbon and bows

Elf was busy this night.  He made the hallway festive by hanging ribbons and bows from the ceiling.

Elf on the Shelf having a snow ball fight with Mr. Potato Head

We have never done Elf on the Shelf, but I love to see everyone else’s ideas. I think my favorite you shared was the roasting marshmallows.

I saw a fun one where someone filled the sink with water and put the elf in a toy boat holding a twig with twine – fishing for Swedish fish.

Thanks for the idea Aliza! We once tried fishing for goldfish, but by morning they were soggy.
