One of our favorite ways to spend time together and get into the spirit of Christmas is to watch Christmas movies during the holiday season.  It’s a family tradition that we continue year after year.

We used to watch them on ABC Family.  As soon as the schedule was released, I would notate the dates and times for each movie on our calendar, so we would not miss any of our favorites.  About three years ago we got rid of cable and were good until Christmas rolled around and we could not watch our favorite Christmas movies.

I started purchasing a few DVDs each year, so we can continue our Christmas movie watching tradition. This way actually works better, because we can watch the movies anytime we want. We can also take them along as we travel during the holidays.

Our list contains lots of old, new, and remade family friendly Christmas movies.

Christmas Family Friendly Favorites

On top of our list growing up and continued on with our kids is always A Charlie Brown Christmas, Santa Claus Is Comin to Town, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Frosty the Snowman, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Polar Express has now been added to this list.

Christmas Comedies

I remember when Home Alone was released and that instantly became a family favorite too. We just started watching the Home Alone movies with our kids this year and they love all of them! They laugh so hard during the Home Alone movies. We are looking forward to introducing other Christmas comedies.

If you are looking for more laughs and slap stick humor, check out these Christmas comedies Christmas with the Kranks, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Jingle All the Way, The Santa Clause, and A Christmas Story.

Character Favorites

We are starting to move away from Christmas movies featuring our favorite characters (Curious George Christmas) and moving onto Christmas comedies, but the kids still enjoy these every year: Mickey’s Twice Upon A Christmas, Disney’s A Christmas Carol, and Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas.

More Christmas Classics

Other Christmas classics we can’t forget: Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, Disney’s a Christmas Carol, Jack Frost.

What’s your favorite Christmas movie? Which ones are on your must see list this year?
