I get so excited when the weather warms up in the spring and the kids can play outside. With that comes running in and out of the house, open doors and flies. We pull out the flyswatters and they quickly became the kids’ new favorite toy. Rooms full of toys and the flyswatters are their favorite.

Believe it or not a lot of my inspiration for kids’s crafts and activities comes from the Dollar Tree. We were at the Dollar Tree a few days ago and I saw these cute (as cute as it can be for a flyswatter) flower flyswatters. The best part is that they came packaged together, so I paid only a $1 or both of these flyswatters. We love to experiment with new painting tools, so we gave the flyswatters a go.
Supplies:
Cost: Under $5
- Flyswatter
- Paint
- Gree marker (to do the stem & leaves)
- Free Printable
Dircections:
Age: Toddler & up
1. Print this April Showers Bring May Flowers printable.
2. Let the kids pick a paint color and spread it out on a paper plate. Put the flyswatter in paint making sure to cover the entire surface.
3. Instruct the kids to slap or place the flyswatter on the printable. We found that if we gently placed it on the paper and then used our fingers to press down, it made a better flower. This was the hard part for the kids.
4. Carefully pick the flyswatter up off the paper and see your flower. Once painting has dried, draw a stem and leaves onto flower using a green maker. I love how these turned out. I would have to say that flyswatters were a successfully painting tool.
We did a little process painting after our flower project.
I put daddy’s old t-shirts on the kids, laid down some old poster board on the driveway to catch most of the splatters (I hosed the rest of the paint off the driveway wen we were done). They had so much fun swatting their flyswatter onto the paper.
