Today’s craft is inspired by a beloved Eric Carle book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This Very Hungry Caterpillar craft is a great extension of this favorite book.

It’s a hard to pick a favorite Eric Carle book, but The Very Hungry Caterpillar is definitely on top of our list. I recently donated many of our board books as our kids have outgrown them, but his was one of the few I kept.

Supplies:

  • Red pom-pom (we used 1-2″ pom-pom)
  • Green pom-poms (we used 4-2″ pom-poms)
  • Black pom-pom (really small)
  • Glue Gun (my kids use an Ultra Low Temp Glue Gun)
  • Purple Pipe Cleaner
  • Yellow Paper (we used foam paper)
  • Green Paper (we used foam paper)

Directions:

1. Glue pom-poms together with the red pom-pom in the front as the head.

2. Cut a piece from the pipe cleaner and fold in 1/2 for the antenna. Glue between the red pom-pom and the green pom-pom behind it.

3. Cute 2 small yellow ovals and 2 smaller green ovals from the paper. Glue each green oval to the yellow oval and glue to the front of the red pom-pom.

4. Glue a very small black pom-pom to the red pom-pom as the nose of the very hungry caterpillar.
