Hi there!  I’m Ali and I am visiting today from Home Crafts by Ali.  It’s great to be with you here at The Resourceful Mama!  I’m a Mama myself to 2 wonderful daughters (10 & 7).  With summer being here and the girls out of school, we have been busy with science projects, reading and working on some crafts.  Today I’m going to share with you this thrifty and fun kids art project that we worked on this week.

During the summer I let my girls pick out some art projects to work on.  They always see me painting and wanted to do a project for themselves.  We found these little votive holders at a yard sale and my girls asked if they could decorate them.  I thought it would be a fun project, so we got out our paints.

Supplies Used

Glass votive holders

Acrylic Paint

Paintbrush

Cotton Swabs

Clear Acrylic sealant

My older daughter decided to use the cotton swabs and the paintbrushes to decorate her votive.  She decided to decorate hers with ladybugs and leaves.

My younger daughter decided to make a Harry Potter themed votive.  It has Harry, snitches, a 3-headed dog, and Harry’s best friends Ron & Hermione.

My girls looked like they were having so much fun that I joined in and make one too!

It was a nice project for us to work on together.  After we finished painting, I sprayed a clear sealant over the top of the paint so it will last longer.  We don’t use candles very often, but the three of us like to collect things and this would be the perfect size for pretty rocks, seashells from trips to the beach, colorful buttons or beads.

It’s Kim again…how fun are these painted votive candle holders!  Whenever we go candle shopping, our kids have to smell every candle.  I sometimes let them each pick out a small votive.  These painted votive holders would be great for their candles.

What a fun post! I love how they turned out and so cute for the home or for kids’ bedrooms. I love the activities that keep kids busy during the summer while helping them to build those fine motor skills and creativity.

I could actually DO this. And you can’t say that about many craft projects. Very cute!
