I still find myself in disbelief that it has become the norm for tweens (and sometimes younger kids) to have a cell phone. I remember being a teenager and my dad coming home with a bag phone. Anyone else remember those? It would be a few more years before I had my first cell phone and many years afer that before I got a smartphone.
The Need for a Cell Phone

The cell phone issue had been hanging out at our house for at least a year and had become more pressing. Our tween wanted a cell phone and there were times when he needed a phone. We went back and forth on what to do. He wanted a cell phone. We needed him to have one for those times when he is left at home while we run the younger two to activities. Does a tween really need their own cell phone? I didn’t have one until college! Yet, times have changed. We, like many families, don’t have a landline. I don’t remember the last time I saw a phone booth. I’m not sure my kids would know what a phone booth is if we did see one.
Compromise
Compromise was on the horizon. There really are times when an additional cell phone is needed at our house, like the 100 times a day when I lose mine or when our tween is left home alone or when the kids have drained my battery playing video games.
The solution is to take baby steps and get an additional cell phone for the household. Your tween can be the primary user of the phone, but it would not be their phone…yet. It gives them the opportunity to spend the time learning to be responsible and respectful of the phone.
ZTE Grand X Max 2
We were excited to have the opportunity to try the ZTE Grand X Max 2 from Cricket.
The thing my husband said upon pulling the ZTE Grand X Max 2 out of the box is, “this will be great for playing video games!” It has a big screen, bright colors, and great resolution.
The ZTE Grand X Max 2 has exceptional features for great value.
