This Spookley the Square Pumpkin Craft was inspired by one of our favorite fall books. We read it multiple times every fall. This super simple, but fun kid craft is a great extension to the book. We turned paint and paper into our own square pumpkin, just like Spookley.
The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin appears as simple story full of adventure and rhyme, but has several positives messages woven throughout. It teaches us about tolerance and kindness in a fun, easy manner. Spookley was different and was teased by the other pumpkins until he showed them that being different can save the day.

Supplies
- White Cardstock
- Orange Paint
- Sponge
- Scissors
- Glue
- Black Paper
- Green Paper
- Pink Paper
- 1″ Circle Hole Punch
- 1 1/4″ Circle Hole Punch
- 2″ Circle Hole Punch
Directions
1. To start your Spookley the Square Pumpkin Craft, cut a white piece of cardstock into a square. We did an 8×8 square.
2. Cut a strip from a sponge. This will become your paintbrush.
3. Using your sponge, dad orange paint onto your white square paper until it is covered with paint. The sponge painting adds texture to your pumpkin craft.
4. While your paint is drying, cut out your eyes, dimples and mouth. We used a 2″ circle hole punch to cut out the outer part of the eye from white paper. We used a 1 1/4″ circle hole punch to cut out the black inter part of the eye. Glue the black circles to the white circles to make eyes.
5. Next, use a 1″ circle hole punch to cut out two pink dimples.
6 Cut out a mouth from black paper (or use a black marker to draw a mouth) and a stem from the green paper.
7. Once the paint has dried, assemble your square pumpkin craft. Glue your green stem to the back of the square pumpkin so that it sticks out at the top. Glue the eyes, mouth and dimples to your pumpkin.
