I remember going into work on Valentine’s Day after we had our first child and getting asked what we had got him for Valentine’s Day. I can’t remember if if was the very first Valentine’s Day making him just six months old or the second one making him eighteen months old. Either way, my answer was “um, what?” Christmas was just under two months ago and before that was his birthday. I have to get him something for Valentine’s Day too!?
I’m not near as cynical about Valentine’s Day or other holidays as I may have once been. Our kids love holidays and look forward to festive decorations, yummy treats, fun games, and yes the occasional gift.
I remember asking my coworkers at the time what they got their kids for Valentine’s Day and most replied candy or a stuffed animal. This was our firstborn, so candy was definitely out of the question 😉 and no way was a I going to be responsible for bringing another stuffed animal into our house, so began our book tradition for Valentine’s Day.
